Phil Babb takes over as Hayes & Yeading United manager
Phil Babb has been appointed the new manager of Blue Square Bet South club Hayes & Yeading United.
It is the 42-year-old ex-Liverpool and Republic of Ireland defender's first managerial position.
"I'm really excited to use my years of experience, plus the knowledge of non-league and lower league football I have gained in recent years," he said.
"I recognise the potential here and I believe we can build a successful club and nurture some great young talent."
After starting out as an apprentice with Millwall, Babb enjoyed a 15-year playing career which took in spells at Liverpool, Sporting Lisbon, Coventry and Sunderland.
He played a total of 409 professional matches which included picking up 35 international caps and appearing in the 1994 World Cup.
Since retiring in 2004 to pursue a career in business, he qualified as a UEFA 'B' licensed coach although he has no coaching experience prior to his appointment as Hayes & Yeading boss.
