John Johnson hails the 'best' Northampton Town team

Northampton Town's John Johnson says the current Cobblers side is the best team he has played in.

The 24-year-old arrived at Sixfields in September 2009 and has seen them finish 11th, 16th and 20th in League Two in the last three campaigns.

However, this season they are set to contest the League Two play-offs.

Johnson told BBC Radio Northampton: "This is definitely the strongest team I've played in and hopefully it can be the most successful as well."

The former Middlesbrough and Tranmere defender was brought to Sixfields by Ian Sampson, and the Cobblers were just five points outside the play-off places in his first season at the club.

Northampton host relegation-threatened Barnet on Saturday, and Johnson says the players are looking to make amends for the 4-0 defeat at Underhill earlier in the campaign.

"We had a bad night at their place so we'll be looking to get one over on them," he said. "We've had a few big games here, in the cup competitions, but for me these are definitely the big games coming up.

"I'd love to take part and see Northampton get promoted. That's what I've wanted from day one - it'd be a great feeling."
