1439 - the difference is we're talking about a man biting an opponent. It's not the consequence of the offence - it's the nature of the offence - it's biting for goodness sake. What if a player was down and an opponent urinated on him, and got a 7 game ban. Then 2.5 years later, he does it again. Wouldn't you expect the punishment to be greater to dissuade him from a totally incongruous act?
Also, Suarez gets banned for 7 games whilst in Holland for a bite, does it again in the EPL so the ban must be longer? So with that theory, whenever a player gets red carded more than once for the same offence, ie bad tackle, to dissuade him from doing it again, the ban must increase each time. That's fair surely? It all stinks. All very farcical. Thankfully football is my 2nd sport.
DaveI agree, Suarez is mad, brilliant but a nut job.Unfortunately though the FA are making themselves look very stupid. The Defoe bite, should of been looked at and dealt with, rules or no rules. There has to be an exception sometimes. Aguero lunge on Luiz, Mcmanaman horror tackle on Haidara, neither dealt with. Shocking decisions. People wont stand for double standards.
Torn - The FA have a rule about not rerefereeing a game - a silly rule but a rule nonetheless. Suarez has done it twice, and as a 7 game ban has failed to dissuade him from doing it again, the second punishment MUST be greater if there is to be any hope for it being effective. And remember - we are talking about a professional footballer who can't stop BITING opponents - it's ridiculous. .
Yes Dave indeed, reckless tackles are part of the game, but that doesn't mean to say a high risk leg breaker challenge can't be stamped out with hefty bans. But instead the FA allow some to go unpunished, ie Aguero lunge on Luiz. Can anybody explain why that wasn't seen as worth of a ban? It's plain bizarre. i again raise the Defoe bite on Macherano 2006. Incident sorted with a yellow card. JOKE
This comment was removed because it broke the house rules. Explain
The FA needs to get its house in order and set out clear guidelines on what punishments go with what crime. They also need proper match review procedures put in place so that ALL incidents can be looked at again, not just the ones picked up by the pundits & press. All the fans want is a fair game to be played and the best team to win.
Some rather reckless tackles in the Arsenal vs Man Utd game, mainly that of Evans. 4 bookings already and it's not half time yet. 5 if you include the Arsenal one. Expect more lengthy bans ! NOT
I also agree. I go the match, and am guilty of those offences. If we want to come closer to home, the reason each match does'nt break out in all out warfare is because of CCTV police and officials, not because we are better people or have higher moral standards. LFC all day
