Falkirk 0-2 Partick Thistle

Falkirk v Partick Thistle

Partick Thistle won the First Division title and achieved promotion to the Scottish Premier League thanks to victory at Falkirk.

Thistle, needing only a point, went closest in the first half when a Ross Forbes free-kick smacked the crossbar.

Alan Archibald's side took the lead early in the second period when Andy Dowie headed home a Forbes corner.

And the Jags made sure of the title when Chris Erskine's goal sparked wild celebrations among the visiting fans.

More than 2,000 of them had made the trip but they were almost silenced just four minutes into the game when Conor McGrandles forced Scott Fox into a save.

Archibald's men soon gained a foothold in the game, however, and should have opened the scoring in the 31st minute when Conrad Balatoni headed wide from close range.

Forbes then struck the crossbar with a left-footed free-kick two minutes later as the Jags continued to threaten.

The visitors found the goal they were looking for five minutes into the second half when Dowie headed in Forbes' corner and when Dundee United-bound Erskine added number two with a clinical finish 12 minutes from time, the title party began.

Promotion rivals Morton won 2-0 at Livingston but they remain nine points behind with only two games to go.
