York 2-0 Plymouth

York City beat Plymouth to record a first win in 17 and draw their fellow strugglers closer to the drop zone.

Ashley Chambers completed the move he started when he lifted the ball over Jake Cole for the opener.

Richard Cresswell, in his first game at Bootham Crescent since coming back to the club he left 14 years ago, finished after Tom Platt's header was cleared off the line.

Maxime Blanchard headed wide for Argyle but York remained largely untroubled.

The victory is Nigel Worthington's first since becoming manager earlier this month and means there is just one point between his side and Plymouth, who currently possess League Two's final safety spot.

Worthington delighted with York win

"The performance helped to achieve the three points and it puts a marker down that what we are looking for, what we can do.

"We've shown that at Bristol Rovers and they have shown that again in good style today.

"We've added a couple of goals to it today which has been nice and there were a lot of very good performances out there, with a lot of energy given as well."

Plymouth Argyle manager John Sheridan told BBC Radio Devon:

"It was a very poor performance, we didn't deserve anything from the game. I don't think we were up for it and there's no reason why we shouldn't have been, especially after the buzz of the derby game.

Plymouth second all over - Sheridan

"We played today like a team that had already been relegated and I can't explain why.

"I never get carried away because I know what's around the corner, performances like that. I'm not being disrespectful to players at this level but you have to listen and learn and concentrate all the time and not get carried away, and I'll make sure they don't.

"You think you get a little leeway and then you lose, and the others are winning. It's tight and I've said that all along it's going to be like that."
