Wigan: Ivan Ramis injury may force Martinez into transfer market

Wigan Athletic defender Ivan Ramis receives treatment for his knee injury at Fulham

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez may look to to strengthen his defence in the transfer window if Ivan Ramis's knee injury is as serious as first feared.

Centre-back Ramis was stretchered off with suspected ligament damage in

"We've brought two new faces in (Roger Espinoza and Angelo Henrique) and we're trying to get one more.

"But the results of the scan on Ivan Ramis's knee may change things," Martinez told BBC Radio Manchester.

Ramis, who was in August, has made 19 starts in all competitions for Wigan, who climbed out of the relegation zone with a point at Craven Cottage.

Speaking after the game, Martinez said he expected it to be a "long-term" injury.

And fellow defender Emmerson Boyce added: "It's disappointing for him because he'd just come back into the team and he'd been playing very well. Hopefully, it's not too serious and he'll be back very soon."

Meanwhile, Honduras international Espinoza, who can operate in defence or midfield, will be available to make his first appearance for Wigan when they face Bournemouth in the FA Cup on Tuesday.
