League leaders Gillingham failed to maintain their 100% winning record away from home after a 0-0 draw at Oxford.
The Gills started the stronger, and may have broken the deadlock when Deon Burton's early strike shaved the bar.
They could have taken the lead before half-time, but Burton's powerful header was stopped by Ryan Clarke.
Tom Craddock almost made them pay when he went close for the U's late on, but Gills keeper Stuart Nelson did well to ensure his side went home with a point.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Gillingham manager Martin Allen told BBC Radio Kent:
"It's definitely a point gained. It's another point to what we had this morning.
"They kept going and worked hard. We played some great football in the first half.
"Their goalkeeper was absolutely Gordon Banks, he was awesome. I was clapping him myself, I had to check the team sheet it wasn't Joe Hart.
"It's another point on our total towards Benidorm."
