Andy Bishop wanted loan move from Bury - Peter Shirtliff

Peter Shirtliff has revealed striker Andy Bishop asked for a loan move away from Bury to rebuild his confidence.

The 29-year-old has not scored in any of his last 21 competitive appearances for the Shakers and joined Wrexham on loan on transfer deadline day.

Bury's caretaker boss Shirtliff told BBC Radio Manchester: "He came to see me and told me his confidence was shot.

"He said he needed to go away, get a change of scenery and hopefully that would spark him back to form."

Bishop's last goal came in a 3-1 win at Scunthorpe on 26 December.

Shirtliff added that he is unlikely to sign a replacement on loan, and said Bishop's move was not motivated by finances.

He added: "I thought it was a good opportunity for him to play at a lower level, maybe get some goals and maybe get some confidence back. I think it was a good move for both parties."

Bury remain without a win this season following a 2-0 home defeat by Notts County on Saturday.
