Manchester Utd lose to Aberdeen in Neil Simpson benefit

Neil Simpson and Sir Alex Ferguson
Neil Simpson said the game was a dream come true

Aberdeen FC's Pittodrie Stadium was a full house as Manchester United were beaten 2-1 in former Dons midfielder Neil Simpson's testimonial.

Simpson played under United manager Sir Alex Ferguson when he led the Dons to the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1983.

He is now a coach at the club, and said the match was a "dream come true".

Manchester United kick off their season away to Everton on Monday, but Sir Alex featured some of the club's stars on Tuesday evening.

Simpson made more than 200 appearances for the Dons. He was part of two Scottish title-winning campaigns and also won three Scottish Cup and one Scottish League Cup winners' medals.

He went on to play for Newcastle United and Motherwell.
