Scunthorpe United 1-2 Crewe Alexandra

Luke Murphy's second-half winner handed Crewe Alexandra their first League One points of the season at the expense of Scunthorpe.

Adam Leitch-Smith got the visitors off to a flyer in the first minute when he fired a dipping 35-yard strike into the far corner.

Summer signing Mike Grella levelled from close range after David Mirfin's header had hit the crossbar.

But Murphy won it after the break when he squeezed the ball past Sam Slocombe.

Iron deserved more, says boss Knill

"Obviously we're disappointed and I have to say I thought the players were excellent.

"I've got to say I'm far happier than I was on Saturday even though we've lost and I don't want it to be another season like it was last year where we nearly did this, and we nearly did that, it has to be we are going to do it.

"I thought we deserved to get something out of it but we didn't and that's what we have to learn.

"We have to be more ruthless, but I think we will be."
