Bolton 2-0 Derby

Kevin Davies celebrates his goal

Late goals from Kevin Davies and Chris Eagles gave Bolton their first win back in the Championship.

Marvin Sordell wasted the best chance of the first half when he headed wide, before Derby had a Richard Keogh strike ruled out for a push.

Davies finally broke the deadlock when he fired home from Eagles' teasing left-wing corner.

Mason Bennett hit the post for Derby before Eagles fired in a last-minute goal from 20 yards.

Owen Coyle had seen his Bolton side suffer an opening-day defeat against his former employers Burnley at the weekend, and they were jeered off the pitch by sections of the crowd after a lacklustre first half.

Debutant Conor Sammon - - should have given the Rams an early lead and, although Sordell went close at the other end, Bolton departed to boos at the interval.

Nigel Clough's men were brighter once again after the restart, with Nathan Tyson going close before Keogh's strike from a corner was ruled out for a foul.

Bolton defeat was harsh - Clough

But Bolton steadily improved and, following a spell of persistent pressure, Davies made no mistake from Eagles' corner - slamming home emphatically.

Wanderers goalkeeper Adam Bogdan was then fortunate to see Bennett's drive squirm under his dive and against the post.

But Bolton secured the three points in stoppage time when Eagles forced his way through a pair of challenges to slot an assured low finish.
