Sheff Utd 2-2 Burton (4-5 pens)

Cleveland Taylor

Cleveland Taylor's winning spot-kick provided 10-man Burton a memorable penalty shoot-out win over Sheffield United in the League Cup first round.

Taylor dispatched his decisive penalty after Michael Doyle's effort was saved by Albion keeper Ross Atkins.

Earlier on, Adi Yussuf had the visitors in front but debutant Nick Blackman equalised to take it to extra-time.

Taylor put Albion ahead once more, before Neil Collins made it 2-2 and Marcus Holness saw red for Albion.

Minutes before his goal, Collins also spurned a magnificent opportunity from the spot as Atkins saved well.

Rowett praises Burton's character

Burton Albion manager Gary Rowett told BBC Radio Derby:

"We always knew it was going to be a great start to the season and we've told the players that they've done the work, so they should relish it.

"I said to them before the game, whatever happens, just react in a positive way and deal with the problems.

"I think you saw three or four times when the game turned for different reasons, ever single time we stood up to it and dealt with the game."
