Southport sign striker Chris Almond from Skelmersdale

Southport have made their first summer signing, with Skelmersdale striker Chris Almond moving to Haig Avenue.

Almond, who was a target for Southport manager Liam Watson last season, has agreed a two-year contract with the Blue Square Bet Premier club.

"Chris has been watched by a number of Football League clubs and I feel fortunate to have signed him," Watson told the club website.

"I have said we need quality players this summer and Chris fits the bill."
