Derby County manager Nigel Clough says his team have made significant progress this season but fears sneaking into the Championship play-offs is beyond them.
The Rams have won four of their last six games and are 12th, five points off the top six.
But there are only seven games left and Clough told BBC Radio Derby: "We think there are too many teams above us.
"It will take the vast majority of them to have a bad run. But it's encouraging to be there or thereabouts."
Derby all but secured their survival last Saturday with victory over Crystal Palace and Coventry would need to win all of their final seven matches to have any chance of finishing above the Rams.
Clough added: "Survival is our bottom line.
"To be very close to the play-offs, is progress from previous seasons. It's great to be sitting in mid-table safety. After the last few seasons it feels good."
