Neal Kitson saved a last-minute penalty on his Northampton debut to earn a point at Crewe in League Two.
Luke Murphy collected Nick Powell's pass on his chest and volleyed home to give the Railwaymen the lead.
Adebayo Akinfenwa levelled the scores when he latched on to Toni Brito Silva's pass and slotted home.
Danny Shelley stepped up in added time after Michael Jacobs felled Powell in the area, but Kitson was at hand to make a fine save.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Northampton Town manager Aidy Boothroyd told BBC Radio Northampton:
"The penalty would have been a terrible way to lose a game. I didn't think we started very well and they were the better team in the first half.
"But in the second half, we were very strong and on the front foot. Then, at the death, Neal Kitson makes a fantastic save.
"People were worried when Matt Duke left but they don't need to worry any more. I knew all along Neal would be terrific. We're happy to put him in there because I knew he wouldn't let us down.
"I think we got what we deserved, it was a fair result."
