Oxford United's Alfie Potter injured for rest of season

Oxford United forward Alfie Potter has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after breaking his ankle.

The 23-year-old is understood to have fallen awkwardly in training and a specialist has advised the player will need an operation.

It is a blow to U's manager Chris Wilder, who has also lost another frontman, Tom Craddock, for a month with a hamstring injury.

Potter scored their equaliser in the 1-1 draw at Burton last weekend.

Wilder told BBC Radio Oxford: "It's disappointing off the back of such a positive performance from him at Burton.

"With that and Tommy's news earlier in the week it's hard to take, but we have a resolute bunch and these things happen and you have to get over it."
