Ipswich Town have terminated the contract of midfielder Shane O'Connor by mutual consent.
The 21-year-old, whose deal was set to expire in the summer, has not played a single game this term.
He joined Port Vale on loan in November but returned in the new year having failed to make an appearance.
"Sorry to be leaving but couldn't keep going on this way and not playing football or even been giving the chance to play," he said on Twitter.
O'Connor went on to claim he had been prevented from leaving the club before the season started, saying: "Although might have to look for an opportunity now seen [sic] as I was stopped going last summer."
Since arriving at Portman Road on a free transfer in 2009, after impressing then-boss Roy Keane, the Irishman has featured 22 times.
The left-sided player had a trial with Southend United earlier this month but Shrimpers manager Paul Sturrock did not follow up his interest in the former Liverpool academy prospect.
