Shrewsbury winger Mark Wright says his side want to avoid heartache in the play-offs for a second successive year by winning automatic promotion.
Fifth-placed Town host League Two leaders Southend on Saturday having not lost at home this season.
"The agony of those play-offs still rankles, no-one wants that again," Wright told BBC Radio Shropshire.
"We know we can make the top three, and beating Southend on Saturday will put down a real marker."
Wright added: "Southend are a good team, they're very direct and powerful and they know what they're doing.
"But with our forwards and our wingers we can get at their defence, no-one can beat us on our day."
Shrewsbury finished a point off the automatic promotion places last season but disappointed in the play-offs with a 2-0 aggregate defeat by Torquay.
"Everyone at this club wants to go up, we're geared to go up, and there's no reason why we can't do it," said Wright.
