Peterborough United have handed a four-and-a-half-year contract to young midfielder Joe Newell.
The 18-year-old academy product made his senior debut in a 2-2 draw with Yeovil in April and has gone on to feature 10 times for Posh.
"I found out about it last week and had no hesitation about signing," he told the club website.
"I am delighted. It gives me a bit of security, but I also know that I have to continue to work hard in training."
Posh have struggled to generate their own talent at London Road in recent years.
Defender Sean St Ledger, who left the club in 2006, was the last youth product to play regular games for Peterborough.
But boss Darren Ferguson has previously stated that he believes Newell is the most promising player to come through the club's ranks under his stewardship.
Newell added: "The manager has shown a lot of faith in me and that is fantastic. I just want to repay that faith now."
