Reuben Hazell has resumed training with Shrewsbury Town - four months after picking up a bad knee injury.
At one stage the 32-year-old defender thought he would be ruled out for the rest of the season.
"I'm happy to be back, but you've always got in the back of your mind that you don't want any setbacks," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.
"Part of the injury process is getting the confidence back in your own mind that you can do this, do that."
The summer signing from Oldham was sidelined after being kicked by Torquay's Rene Howe in September and seriously damaging knee ligaments.
He has been doing a lot of solo work under the eye of Shrewsbury physio Chris Skitt and said: "It can be lonely on your own, and I have to say my family have been very supportive to help me through it.
"Hopefully I can be back soon."
