Burnley have terminated centre-half Leon Cort's contract by mutual consent, two years after paying £1.5m for him.

The 32-year-old, who joined from Stoke, has spent the first half of the season on loan with League One side Charlton.

Cort failed to hold down a regular place, playing a total of 20 Clarets games, all under ex-boss Brian Laws.

Meanwhile, teenage Burnley midfielder David Lynch has joined Blue Square Bet North promotion challengers Stalybridge Celtic on a month's loan.

The 18-year-old first-year professional's move to the Bower Fold reunites him with his cousin Chris Lynch, a former Burnley youth-teamer.
