Newcastle United home tie awaits Wrexham or Brighton

FA Cup

Wrexham will play host to Premier League side Newcastle United in the FA Cup fourth round if they overcome Brighton in a replay.

Swansea will travel to face the winners of the third round replay between Macclesfield and Bolton Wanderers.

Wrexham are the only non-league side left in the competition following a 1-1 draw against Championshioat the Amex Championship side Brighton.

They sides will meet again at the Racecourse on Tuesday, 17 January.

Goals from Hatem Ben Arfa and Jonas Gutierrez secured Newcastle's place in the fourth round with a 2-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers.

Wrexham last met Newcastle in the FA Cup in 1978 when they won 4-1 in a fourth round replay at the Racecourse following a 2-2 draw at St James' Park.

Wrexham player-manager Andy Morrell said the prospect of a home tie against Alan Pardew's side would be a big incentive to beat Brighton in the replay.

Morrell also said a home tie against Newcastle would be a financial boost for the club, who are owned by Wrexham Supporters' Trust.

"There's obviously a big carrot dangled in front of us to get through," said Morrell.

"Newcastle are obviously a big club and they'd come in their droves.

"Obviously the finances are well stated and anything we do in the cup is a bonus. The finances aren't set around having a good cup run so everything's a bonus."

Swansea secured their fourth round place with a 4-2 win at Barnsley and have been handed an away tie at either Macclesfield Town or Bolton Wanderers.

David Wheater's late header rescued a replay for Bolton at League Two side Macclesfield.

The fourth round ties will played over the weekend of 28/29 January.
