Wadsworth hopeful of return for Solano and Sweeney

Hartlepool United head coach Mick Wadsworth says midfielders Nolberto Solano and Antony Sweeney are nearing returns to fitness at Victoria Park.

Solano, 36, has been absent with a hamstring strain since early October, while Sweeney, 28, has a groin problem.

"Both are pretty near [to fitness] now, but Tony is a little bit behind Nobby," Wadsworth told BBC Tees.

"Nobby trained yesterday and did some fitness work today so he may be back into full training this week."

Wadsworth added: "That would be good news because that quality we desperately need and have desperately lacked at times.

"Sweeney might be a little bit further behind but we'll see."

Solano's last outing in October's 3-0 defeat at Notts County was only the club's second of the league season.

However that run has now stretched to just one win in six games, prior to Saturday's trip to Leyton Orient.

Former Peru international Solano joined Pools following his release from Championship side Hull City in May.

Meanwhile Sweeney has been at the club since joining the club's youth programme, and has made more than 350 appearances.
