Guernsey FC assistant manager Colin Fallaize has praised his side's discipline after their 3-1 win at second-placed Bedfont Sports.
Dominic Heaume got two first-half goals while Ross Allen scored a second-half penalty to go 14 points clear.
"We didn't allow ourselves to get dragged into what could easily have been a brawl," Fallaize said.
"There was a lot of intimidation and a lot of physical in the game and we held our temperament."
Guernsey inflicted a first defeat of the season on their opponents, but have played four more matches than Bedfont in the Combined Counties league Division One.
Despite that, Fallaize says he would rather have the points than the games in hand.
"I'd prefer to have the points in the bag then have a fixture back-up," he told BBC Guernsey.
"As the season goes on you're possibly playing Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday to try and catch up and that puts a heavy strain on your squad."
