Lincoln City caretaker manager Grant Brown has hinted that he could be in the running for the permanent job.
Head of youth Brown, who has been in charge since the sacking of Steve Tilson, has so far distanced himself from the club's search for a successor.
But he told BBC Lincolnshire: "If they asked me I wouldn't turn it down.
"But if somebody else on the interview list has a better CV than me and can develop the club better than we're doing I'll be supportive of that."
Asked if that meant he was among the shortlisted candidates for the job, a non-committal Brown said: " I didn't say that. I nearly did, but I didn't.
"The chairman's asked me to do Friday's game [away at Cambridge United]. If they ask me to do next Saturday's game I'll do that and if the board of directors then ask me to continue to do the games the I'll do them."
Imps chairman Bob Dorrian had hoped that an announcement on the new manager would be made in time for the match at Cambridge on 21 October but BBC Lincolnshire understands this will now not happen until the following week.
