Swindon boss Paolo Di Canio hails Simon Ferry impact

Simon Ferry
Ferry has made a total of 85 appearances for Swindon

Swindon Town manager Paolo di Canio believes midfielder Simon Ferry is now starting to replicate his impressive home form on the road.

Ferry has only missed one league game this season and has become a central figure in the Robins pack.

And Di Canio singled out the the 23-year-old as his star man in the 2-0 win at Accrington on Saturday.

"Credit to Simon - he made the best performance away from home," he told BBC Wiltshire.

"He was the main player that pressed everywhere and challenged every ball."

Ferry first joined Swindon on loan from Celtic in 2009/10 and signed a permanent deal the following season.

He played 25 games last term but fell out of favour with former manager Paul Hart.

But he has been one of only a handful of regulars in Di Canio's ever-changing line-up this season and the Italian thinks he can still improve.

"The credit goes to him because I told him before the game 'now is the time you play exactly the same away from home'.

"He's done fantastic at home, but never away. But he did fantastic [at Accrington].

"But obviously he doesn't have to be happy yet. He has to keep going and from this step improve his knowledge, quality and future."
