Cambridge United release striker Daryl Clare
Cambridge United have released striker Daryl Clare by mutual consent after 15 months at the club.
"I think we both hoped we could sort something out with a loan or something permanent," U's boss Jez George told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.
"We tried to reach an agreement where both parties could move on, and that's what we've done."
Meanwhile, George has revealed two clubs have made approaches to sign out-of-favour midfielder Conal Platt.
Platt, 24, has been told he is not in George's plans at the Abbey Stadium.
"We have two clubs interested, firm interest, one of which has asked him to train on Friday, which I've given him permission to do because it's a club Conal will be quite keen to go to," George explained.
"I'd expect something to happen by the weekend. One club's a step up in league, one isn't."
But George added the departure of both players would not give him extra funds to bolster his side.
He said: "It won't free budget up at all, any players that come in now will be on an absolute short-term, needs must situation."
