Plymouth Argyle midfielder Will Atkinson has said the youthful look of the squad will be a major benefit over the course of the season.

The 22-year-old is one of a string of youngsters brought in by boss Peter Reid, whose squad's average age is 22.

"On the training pitch everyone's eager to learn and that's a great thing to have," Atkinson told BBC Devon.

"There's a willingness to run all day and there's a lot of talent as well, so there are a lot of prospects."

Atkinson joined Argyle on a season-long loan from Hull City at the start of August having struggled to make an impact at the KC Stadium.

The youngster spent the second half of last season on loan at Rochdale where he had the best spell of his career, playing 21 games and scoring two goals.

"Experience is important," he continued. "We have got a couple of experienced players, but unfortunately the captain (Carl) Fletcher was missing on Tuesday night which is a shame but I think we've got enough to do the job.

"With the situation the club's in there's not a lot of options, but there's a lot of good young players here and I think the future's bright."
