Notts County have abandoned attempts to sign Tranmere striker Enoch Showunmi, reports BBC Radio Nottingham.
Notts have had three bids rejected for the Nigeria international - all understood to be in excess of £100,000.
However, Rovers have placed a higher valuation on the 29-year-old, which the Magpies are unwilling to meet.
The League One side remain keen to bring a striker to Meadow Lane and are also close to signing another player on a season-long loan deal.
Showunmi, who moved to Prenton Park in July 2010, scored 13 goals in 49 games last season.
