Ashley Grimes hit his third Rochdale goal in a week to deny Huddersfield their first league win of the season.
Lee Novak rifled the Terriers in front after good approach play by Scott Arfield before both players saw efforts cleared off the line.
Dale levelled against the run of play when Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro volleyed in.
Novak's low cross was crashed home by substitute Danny Ward to give the hosts the lead before Grimes equalised with a well-taken finish.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Rochdale manager Steve Eyre told BBC Radio Manchester:
"We need to stop going behind in games, but for the second time this week we've tinkered with the shape and the lads have bought into the new tactics.
"We were brave today and I think on the balance of play we've deserved our draw.
"Jean-Louis wasn't in the game for first 30 minutes but he's swung it back our way with an opportunist goal."
