Substitute Harry Arter made the points safe for the hosts when he finished off good approach play by Lyle Taylor and Liam Feeney.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Bournemouth boss Lee Bradbury told BBC Radio Solent:
"Sheffield Wednesday are a big strong side who can bully teams and I thought we dealt with them very well.
"(On Adam Barrett) He's strong in the air, a leader and someone all the lads look up to.
"It's a really big confidence boost for the lads to beat one of the sides tipped to do very well this year."
Sheffield Wednesday manager Gary Megson told BBC Radio Sheffield:
"The performance was okay without it being top draw.
"The game itself showed that the value of scoring the first goal. We had at least two very good opportunities to do that and I think if we had then we would have won.
"It's real sloppy football for us to lose that game and we've thrown away an opportunity to get another three points"
