Oxford United midfielder Paul McLaren is set to return to full training later this week.
The 34-year-old has been suffering with a calf problem which has hampered his involvement in pre-season so far.
He told BBC Oxford: "It's always frustrating for any footballer to be watching on.
"I've done a lot of work with the physios, the calf is ok now, but I need to catch up on some fitness and join back in with the boys."
McLaren will not be in contention for a starting place at Rotherham on Saturday but is still excited by the new campaign.
He said: "The atmosphere around the club is great at the moment, I think we can do well this season."
