Former Barnet midfielder Rossi Jarvis is set to spend the next week on trial with Cambridge United.
The 23-year-old came on as a second half substitute in Tuesday night's 2-0 win over Northampton.
U's boss Jez George told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "Rossi is a good footballer, even though he's not as fit as he'd like to be or needs to be.
"But that only comes from playing and training and I think he's made a good impression so far."
The U's are on the hunt for another midfielder after terminating the contract of Steven Connors just five weeks since he signed.
Jarvis started his career at Norwich, spending time on loan at Torquay and Rotherham, before joining Luton and then Barnet.
Meanwhile, George will decide whether or not to offer Oxford defender Steven Kinniburgh a contract within the next two days.
The U's need cover at left-back with James Jennings suspended for the opening three matches of the season.
