Crewe Alexandra have taken former Hibernian defender Chris Hogg on trial and he will feature against Derby County on Tuesday night.
The 26-year-old has been recommended to Alex boss Dario Gradi by former England defender Colin Todd.
Gradi told BBC Radio Stoke: "He has a bit of experience and although not as towering a defender as perhaps we would like, he is still decent in the air."
Hogg spent the end of last season with Inverness, making 10 starts.
The Alex have been looking at several central defenders during their pre-season friendlies, including Josh Gowling, Tom Parkes and Jordan Rose.
Gradi added: "We are looking for that defender who could come in and improve us.
"I received a phone call from Colin Todd recently and he recommended Chris as he is from the same area in the North East."
Former Ipswich Town trainee Hogg made 172 appearances for Scottish Premier League side Hibernian after being signed by Tony Mowbray in 2005 and was made team captain four years later.
But he fell out of favour under manager Colin Calderwood and joined fellow SPL side Inverness Caledonian Thistle in January on a short-term deal.
