Swindon Town have signed midfielder Alan McCormack on a two-year deal.

Dublin-born McCormack left Charlton Athletic by mutual consent last week and held talks with Robins manager Paolo di Canio on Wednesday evening.

He told BBC Wiltshire: "The manager's thoughts on football were everything I wanted to hear. I told him straight away I wanted to be a part of it."

The 27-year-old made 31 appearances for the League One side last season, scoring once.

McCormack added: "I had a few options, a few League One clubs were chasing. In the end, when I found out Swindon were interested and after meeting the manager, there was no doubt where I wanted to go.

"There's a big squad here now. You only have to look at what people are saying about us.

"It's good to have five excellent players looking to get in to the centre of midfield. It's a good headache for the manager to have.

"You've got to hand it to the chairman for getting in a manager of the stature of Paolo di Canio. It shows the ambition of the fans, the team and chairman."

McCormack only joined Charlton last summer on a free transfer from Southend United and still had a year left to run on his contract at the Valley.
