Ian Bogie demands consistency from Gateshead players

Gateshead manager Ian Bogie has said that his side must improve their consistency this season.

The Tynesiders finished the last campaign in 14th place in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

Bogie told BBC Newcastle: "Against the excellent sides in our league, the good sides, Wrexham, Luton Town, Crawley, we were right up there.

"It shows the players can perform at a high standard, but it's about consistency at this level."

He added: "Against the lesser [sides], no disrespect, the likes of Hayes & Yeading away and Southport away, we came unstuck."

Gateshead enjoyed a run of five league wins out of five in February, but then went on to win just two of their final 15 league matches.

Bogie said: "Ultimately that's why a lot of players are playing for Gateshead Football Club and maybe not playing for Carlisle United or Newcastle United.

"They've got to show consistency in their games and in their performances individually and collectively, and if we can produce that we'll have an exciting season ahead."

Bogie has made four signings so far this summer and added that he will take his time over any other deals.

"There's a lot of players hedging their bets thinking they're going to get fixed up and there are a lot of good players still available, and they're counting themselves out of the market because, I tell you now, in the current climate in terms of finances - it's very, very difficult," he said.

"We're in a position that we're trying to assemble a squad who are going to take us forward and we want to get the right personnel who are going to come and really give it a go for Gateshead Football Club, not people who are waiting to get the big bucks."
