Gael Clichy says Manchester City are title contenders
New Manchester City defender Gael Clichy believes they are "big contenders" to win the Premier League.
The left-back, who signed from Arsenal for £7m after nearly eight years at the north London club, was Roberto Mancini's first summer signing.
And Clichy told 5 live's Sportsweek programme: "Last season we finished third and won the FA Cup. The desire for winning is bigger than ever.
"It was the right time for me to move on, and City is the right opportunity."
He said it was "good to have a change" and that "for sure, City [are] big contenders for the title".
As for his old club, Clichy was full of support for his former boss Arsene Wenger - even though midfielders Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri have been linked with moves away from the Emirates all summer.
"I had eight amazing seasons with Arsenal, I love the players, and I just needed a fresh challenge," he said.
"I want the best for Arsenal. If players leave, the manager is smart enough to bring people in."
The 25-year-old said he was frustrated at Arsenal's disappointing finish last season. The Gunners eventually finished fourth in the Premier League and lost the Carling Cup final against Birmingham.
"It was a long season," he said, "you get to the crucial month of February, one minute you are in all competitions and then you lose one game and everything collapses.
"We put so much effort in to get something for the fans but we just couldn't make it."
Asked if City had a better chance of winning silverware than Arsenal, Clichy said: "The team is progressing year on year, and with the quality of the squad I'm sure that we will have success."
