Stoke City had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Newport County in their first pre-season friendly of the summer.

Gary Warren gave the Blue Square Premier side the lead with a looping header just before the interval.

But Kenwyne Jones equalised 15 minutes from time for the FA Cup runners-up and later had another effort disallowed.

Manager Tony Pulis selected a strong starting line-up, including 10 of the squad that featured in the loss to Manchester City at Wembley in May.

The Potters will play four more friendly matches before the first leg of their Europa League third qualifying round tie against Croatia's Hajduk Split on 28 July.
