Mansfield Town have signed goalkeeper Shane Redmond from Chesterfield.

The former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, who started his career at Nottingham Forest, is the Stags' fourth signing in little over a week.

The arrival of 22-year-old Redmond, follows the acquisition of player-coach Andy Todd, midfielder Jon Worthington and defender Ritchie Sutton.

Redmond has already played under Stags boss Paul Cox, with Eastwood Town three years ago.

Redmond, who had loan spells with Burton Albion and Darlington while he was at Forest, spent last season on the bench for Chesterfield, where he earned a League Two championship winner's medal.

"It was an easy decision to sign," Redmond told the club website. "We should be in the Football League and hopefully we can be there next season.

"I don't want to sit on the bench for another season. I want to play as many games as I can and hopefully get ahead of Alan Marriott.

"Alan is a fantastic keeper and it will be a challenge to gain the number one jersey, but one which I am ready for."
