Nottingham Forest manager Steve McClaren has confirmed the club's interest in signing former Derby and West Brom midfielder Giles Barnes.
Barnes came through the Forest academy before joining Derby but is now a free agent after leaving the Baggies.
McClaren told BBC Radio Nottingham: "He has had bad injuries. Maybe he needs a chance? We may give him that.
"We've spoken with Giles. He's a young talent - still only 22 - but seems to have been around for years."
Barnes played a key role in helping the Rams win promotion to the Premier League in 2006/07 but was plagued by injuries following that and was released by the club in December 2009.
He then joined the Baggies on an 18-month deal in early 2010 but did not feature under Roy Hodgson.
