Southport captain Alan Moogan says they deserve to stay in the Blue Square Bet Premier after their reprieve.
They were relegated from the fifth tier, but allowed back in after Rushden and Diamonds were expelled.
"I would have liked it to have been done a different way and have liked us to have stayed up on merit," Moogan told BBC Radio Merseyside.
"If you look at the overall picture, I do think we deserve to stay up in the end. I see it as a second chance."
Southport manager Liam Watson says he must add to his squad in the close season, and he has identified players from the Football League as possible recruits.
Moogan has backed his manager's statement and says the club can only benefit with the added quality.
"Of course that will be welcome if we get more experienced players coming from the Football League, that can only help any team," he said.
"Especially our team and we've got quite a young squad. I think a lot of the players are 22, 23 or 24 years of age.
"So if we can bring experienced players in, that's only going to be of help to everyone."
