Newport County manager Anthony Hudson says he was secured his first target of the summer by signing Craig McAllister.

Striker McAllister, 30, scored 13 goals in 47 games for Crawley Town last term, but rejected an offer to stay with the Blue Square Bet Premier champions.

"Craig has been attracting interest and offers from clubs in our league and above including Luton, York, Wimbledon, Aldershot and Fleetwood," said Hudson.

"But after long discussions wants to be part of where we are going."

McAllister joined Crawley from Exeter last summer, having had fruitless loan spells at Barnet and Rotherham.

Hudson, who is hoping to finalise a deal to sing another player with Football League experience, added: "Craig is exactly the type of player that we are looking for - he is experienced, knows exactly what is required at this level and will help take this club forward."
