Scunthorpe manager Alan Knill is considering raiding his old club Bury for prolific striker Ryan Lowe, BBC Sport understands.
Lowe, 32, hit 28 goals to help the Shakers win promotion to League One this season, and was voted the League Two player of the year.
The Liverpudlian striker has two years left on his contract at Gigg Lane.
Knill left Bury in March to take charge of the Iron but could not keep them in the Championship.
Lowe, who joined Bury in July 2009, began his career with non-league Burscough before joining Shrewsbury in 2000 and has had a stint with Crewe as well as two spells with Chester.
His haul of 27 league goals this campaign saw him set a new club record for scoring in nine consecutive games and finish as the division's second-highest goalscorer behind Crewe's Clayton Donaldson.
Knill signed Lowe for the Shakers but had told BBC Radio Humberside at the end of April that he would not be swooping for him again.
