Oxford United midfielder Asa Hall believes the U's have underachieved in League Two this season.
Oxford won promotion to the Football League last May after a four-year absence and now sit outside the play-offs in 11th with just one game left.
"We've given it a good shot but I think maybe we have underachieved," the 24-year-old told BBC Oxford.
"It's our first season back but everyone is a bit disappointed and wish we had longer to get back in it."
Oxford have won 17 of their 45 games this season and could potentially finish as high as ninth if they beat Hall's former club Shrewsbury on Saturday.
The U's are unbeaten in their last five league games and Halls thinks the team have adapted well to the standards of the Football League.
"As a squad and as a team we are growing, we're getting more mature and we're learning how to finish games off," he said.
"Our plan is to push on and finish off really strong."
