Hibernian midfielder Matt Thornhill miss miss the end-of-season run-in after damaging medial knee ligaments in last week's win over Aberdeen.
The incident happened towards the end of Hibs' 1-0 win at Pittodrie.
But it was thought at the time the injury was not serious and the former Nottingham Forest player finished the match on the field.
However, this week it was discovered that the injury was more serious and he will miss Hibs' final six matches.
Thornhill has played nine times for the Edinburgh club since signing until 2013 in January.
The 22-year-old Nottingham-born midfielder had failed to become a regular with Forest and had loan spells with Brighton and Cheltenham Town.
