Port Vale missed the chance to move back into the play-off places despite dominating against Bury.
Valiants strikers Marc Richards and Tom Pope both rattled the woodwork in the first half.
Doug Loft saw a powerfully struck shot come back off a post after the interval as the visitors struggled to get a foothold in the game.
The Shakers finished the match with 10-men as captain Steven Schumacher saw red for a second bookable offence.
Port Vale caretaker manager Mark Grew told BBC Radio Stoke:
"The spirit was tremendous and if they keep putting that effort in, we'll win more than we lose.
"There are a lot more positives that have come out of this game than negatives.
"We've got Lincoln on Tuesday night and we've got to be looking for three points."
Bury manager Alan Knill told BBC Radio Manchester:
"Pleased with a point, I thought they were better than us and we didn't play particularly well.
"We've had unbelievable illness go through the camp and we have some injuries, so to come here fight and battle like we did you take a point.
"Right now I've got eight games left and I'm fully focused on turning this season from a good season to a great season."
