BDO World Championships: Glen Durrant successfully defends his title
Last updated on .From the section Darts

Glen Durrant produced "the performance of my life" to win a second BDO world title in a row by defeating Mark McGeeney 7-6 at Lakeside.
The defending champion, 47, led 6-4 but fellow Englishman McGeeney came back to level at 6-6 before missing two darts for the title in the deciding set.
Durrant then scored a brilliant 149 checkout to move within a leg of victory, before holding throw in a nervy finish to seal the win.
"My bottle had gone," he said.
"There was no way I was hitting doubles at one point in that match," the Teessider told Channel 4.
"I was throwing darts hoping they were going in rather then knowing they would, but somewhere, somehow, I found some."
Durrant becomes the ninth player to have won more than one BDO world title - along with Eric Bristow (five), Raymond van Barneveld (four), John Lowe and Martin Adams (both three), and Ted Hankey, Phil Taylor, Scott Waites and Jocky Wilson (all two).
"Wow. Barney, Brissy, Wolfy (Adams), they are the legends. It will take a while to comprehend what just what happened," he added.
"It is just really, really special and I know everyone back home will be so super proud of me.
"Two-times world champion. What a thought. Big respect to Mark. I am sure his time will come."

To think McGeeney had 3 darts to win it.
If he had it would have gone down as the biggest joke in darting history.
Rename lakeside the world semi professional world championship would be more appropriate
The simple answer to your question is 'No'. There is a fair amount of evidence which suggests that the PDC is a better product than the BDO.
1) Why do so many players switch to the PDC and not vice versa?
2) How many Grand Slam winners have come from the BDO?
3) Look at the averages in the respective World Championships - no comment required.
4) Prize money - I rest my case.
It's a joke that they have to forfeit their winnings if the enter Q school. I doubt it would hold up in court but I wouldn't want to stake 100 grand on it!
I read about that too. I find that deplorable by the BDO. The counter argument would be that nobody is forcing the BDO players to sign a contract. If they don't sign, does that mean they are ineligible for the World Champs? Also, I wonder whether this has been contested through the courts? Interesting dilemma for the BDO players.
And why do you think they switched? Because the BDO is a poorly marketed dinosaur and their players rely on exhibitions to make their living because there are so few tournaments. If you don't have SKY, watch the Masters on ITV4 between 26-28 Jan and you decide for yourself if you really think the BDO is better. If you do, carry on in your rose tinted glasses.
