Geraint Thomas will chase another good result in the Criterium du Dauphine as he builds for July's Tour de France.

The Olympic track gold medallist won his first major road event last month with victory in the Tour of Bavaria.

"Last week was a great week for myself and the team, I won the overall of the race and we won two stages as well," Thomas said.

"It's nice to get that win on the board and know the form is there. It's only a month until the Tour."

The Criterium du Dauphine begins with Sunday's prologue and runs until 12 June, taking in 1,064 kilometres over seven stages.

Part of the route duplicates some of the ground that Thomas and his Team Sky companions will have to cover in the Tour de France.

"It's a short prologue which is good for me, I'm really looking forward to that," Thomas added.

"But the rest of the race is like a mini Tour de France, there's four uphill finishes so it's definitely a tough race and a good test before the Tour.

"Bradley Wiggins will be our main man there and he's going really well at the minute, so hopefully we can get him on the podium and that'll be the goal for the rest of the race."
