Maxdog fair comment and like many on HYS saying Archer not being used correctly or even being man managed properly.Like you say his body and mind will go for the quick fix and money of ODI.Hopefully not and he will be able to settle and Test cricket becomes his love.We shall see when England bowl .
agree duncanThere is definitely a very stubborn streak with Root-took ages to get rid of his mate JB despite the mountain of evidence and it's worrying that Mo and Woakes appear to have been discarded. A fit and happy Mo is a massive addition to this teamHis management of Archer is worrying as i dont think it would take a lot for Archer to disappear off to play T20/ODIs-i hope I'm wrong
#166 maxdog .... One thinks the only way to get Mo back is if a certain captain is no longer. That's reading between the lines and also could force Woakes to do the same. You stated it in your comment. So much for a Captain's innings on a Pitch he elected to bat first on. Crawley and Sibley ticked away nicely trying to set a foundation.Would have been nice to end the day with just 2 down
Look at the scorecard every single player gets a start!!! Must be a mental issue that more than two at least can’t go on and get big ones!!
looking back at the ashes now, the drawn series seems a result looking at how good the aussies are now & look the best in the world behind india maybe & that looks to be the battle between the top 2 in test competition, england are ranked in 5th behind new zealand & south africa & slightly ahead of sri lanka!, puts it into perspective & england ranked 1st & 3rd respectively in odi &t20i.
average wise you would probably only expect hundred runs from the fall of the next wicket down to the end so 300 looks on which might be okay but if these 2 can get through this 2nd new ball & one go on to get three figures & then 400-450 might be on & on this pitch that could be the game but obviously the old adage is to see both sides bat, i have a feeling wood & bess will be the bowling key!.
The recent England "downs" have nearly always been due to bad selection, and then exacerbated by Root's poor decisions and captaincy.During the Ashes we were continually told Sibley and Crawley weren't ready for Test cricket and that Roy and Bairstow were Test cricketers. Thankfully the selectors have finally realized they were wrong albeit at the cost of the Ashes. Now get Mo back
going forward the batting looks more promising for england!,the injured burns averaging 34,sibley close to 40,denly 31 but he needs that century desperately!, crawley still learning&at 21 he has time&maybe another chance for jennings in sri lanka, these batsmen will need to try&average late 40's like the captain does but more promise than there was it seems, any middleorder put out can kick on score
@163 i thought and posted the same after the 1st session but a couple have gone through the top and a few low on the 1st day. Who knows no one thought the last pitch would play the way it did
Agnew doesn't disappoint - first words out of his mouth again this morning 'England should get 400'. Unfailingly dull.
How good is that straight drive from Stokes... beautiful
The ‘Rollercoaster’ i see is unfortunately up and running. How far back in his crease was Root!! His and Denleys dismissals were poor to say the least.
