No need for sarcasm. Archer will pose a real threat in South Africa . We can't keep believing that Anderson and Broad will carry on forever. Anderson's fitness is a worry , and if he isn't fully fit he shouldn't go. Root must dispense with the idea that Curran should ever take the new ball . Wood should definitely go . As for the batting that is a different issue . Denly has emerged with credit.
How on earth did Matthew Parkinson not get a game. His Leg Break bowling won many a match for Lancashire and how England are crying out for a spinner. England think Root's dobbers and Denly's Batsmen's delight will do the trick. New Zealand would have played Parkie who Shane Warne thinks is an excellent bowler but what does Warne know when compared to Joe Root's superior knowledge of spin
It breaks my heart to see poor old Joffra come away with figures of 2/200. Truly, it does. Must have been the pitches, the ball, the speed guns etc
Absolutely nothing that we all haven't already known for some time.A more appropriate headline question for this article perhaps could have been 'What do we intend to do about it?..'
Correction to 347: Of course in point 3 I meant "The match when Joe Root chose to bat first", in the singular.
340. Eagle_One:1. Len Hutton's advice dates from the era of uncovered pitches.2. Kane Williamson has chosen to field first in all nine of the Test matches in New Zealand when he has won the toss.3. The matches when Joe Root chose to bat first was the one that England lost.
I suspect if we haven't learnt by now we never will.
We learnt that Curran not good enough, sibley and Crawley will not make it, woakes inconsistant, broad past his best and no spinner on the horizon
The Top Brass at Lords are not bothered about Test cricket...the money is the thing. They get shed loads from the 1 Dayers plus the SKY always increasing payments Also they know they can fill the Test grounds in England so happy days for the jingling tills. They pay a bloke £800 Grand a year and he's such a cricket buff that nobody knows his name.
By definition, senior professionals should not be "learning" on an international tour. Learning in overseas conditions is done with the Lions and development squads. It's not like Ed Smith has selected a squad full of kids with a view of looking into the future.
We learnt nothing that we didn't know before. 9/10 the hosts win because the tourists do not have time to prepare.
Ask us after the SA Tour and there be exactly the same Article and Thread ....Oops cynical Yes and deserved Yes.New Management I have to keep the faith with and after the SA Tour it will be Yes they have improved and things have improved. Of which I do hope so for the love of the game.Come on boys ignore the White ball contracts you are been touted with and see Red Ball is the winner.
